These chains are fitted from the outside of the wheel, and are specially designed for use in tight spaces, and for use on twin wheels.
The chain mesh hangs from a sprung steel hoop which you first push over the top of the wheel, then you put one end around each side of the wheel, dragging the chain into place as you do it.
It is very difficult to drag chain links between twin wheels – there is not enough space – which is why the Maggi Select MATIC should always be the chain of choice for these vehicles.
A very practical and easy-to-use 300 lumen head torch with three lighting levels, all you need for general lighting - in and around the home, car, campsite.
You need two hands to fit snowchains or AutoSock. If you've never used a headtorch before you'll be amazed at what a difference they make, and how often you'll end up using it. Keep one in the car, or in your outdoor coat pocket. Petzl is the head torch brand, much copied, never bettered.
After selecting your vehicle we will show you the correct size of Maggi truck chains: for your vehicle and tyre combination. Please note that the price may vary between sizes.
Fitting is very quick and very easy. Lift the centre of the sprung steel hoop onto the top of the tyre and push it to the back. Place each end of the hoop behind the wheel near ground level, left and right of the tyre; this will have had the effect of dragging chain over the face of the tyre except of course where the tyre is in contact the road surface. Join the outer chain ring with its special spring hook, move the vehicle a quarter turn, and then pull the tensioning chain tight. A colour coded locking plate stops it loosening.
These are not self tensioning chains so you’ll need to make a further tensioning stop once the chain has properly shaken itself into place, usually after 10 metres or so.
You will find that you can usually fit these chains without even getting your hands dirty – which just goes to show how different these automatic chains are when compared to other heavy duty commercial snowchain models.
